In the early 1990's European countries instituted stringent environmental legislation to protect against pollution and degradation of ecosystems. The use of synthetic agro-chemicals were restricted, and in some sensitive areas forbidden, in an attempt to curb imbalances resulting from overuse of water soluble synthetic Nitrogen and Phosphate fertilizers. Talborne Organics started by exporting quality natural fertilizers to Europe.

This success inspired entrepreneur businessman Mike Slabber to develop scientifically formulated, balanced fertilizers from natural components.  Talborne Organic Fertilizer delivers high levels of plant nutrients to enable organic growers to produce Organic produce on a commercially viable and sustainable scale.

Vita Organic Fertilizers were launched in March 2000.  International recognition followed in July 2000 when the Organic Food Federation of UK approved Vita Fertilizers as an organic input for production, which enabled fresh organic produce growers in South Africa to export to any market in Europe.
